Yeowtch, right in the eyehole.
I’ve talked to people lately who think Pat Broderick was a hack. To them, I submit this image, and a swift kick in the pants.

The eternal question in the comics game: homage… or bald ripoff?
Hm, didn’t know Robert Kirkman wrote this, either. All the more reason to try to dig it up.

I’ve removed the link becaaaaaause it goes to porn. You know you’re a nerd when you’re disappointed you saw titties instead of an amateurish fan video. I think I need to look at porn now.
Minimate Spidey 2099 ain’t takin’ none of your shit. He holds a special place for being the only 2099 character in Minimate form (so far) and he’s a pretty bad ass character anyway.
It’s a shame that Marvel can’t seem to get the 2099 line working right - it had a great moment in the sun - if only for Spidey 2099.
Are these out now? ARE THESE OUT NOW??

Look, I’m bored and I wanna see if anyone’s paying attention.
I’m trying for this to not be the all-Spidey 2099 blog, because I really do love the entire 2099-verse (except maybe Punisher 2099… yeccch). It’s just that most people, if they remember 2099, Spidey is the beginning and end of their memories, especially since he’s pretty much the only one with a life beyond the run of the imprint.
I’m guessing this is a repaint, maybe of a 616 Spidey bust, with a sculpted on mask detail. It’s a little uneven, especially around the chest, and the sculptor got some of the detailing wrong. Still, I have to applaud anyone who makes such a high-quality custom; I would have no qualms with this in my collection.
Today Jojo draws Spider-Man 2099.
This week Jojo is drawing alternate versions of super heroes. Now we get Jojo’s take on Marvel’s short lived, but fondly remembered, 2099 universe.
Jojo had never seen Spider-Man 2099 but she tried really hard to imagine what people in 1992 thought Spider-Man would look like in 2099. She said, “If I was imagining the future now, I’d make him more streamlined, like an iPad. But in the 90s, I feel like the future would mean adding stuff.”
Well, she was pretty much right. She made him mostly blue, which is right, and toned down the web designs on the costume (which actually makes him look a little like Miles Morales). She gave him a mowhawk instead of a tattered web cape (which achieves the same dumb effect), and she added junk to his feet instead of giving him arm spikes. She also knew his mask would change but she guessed it would be bigger eyes, instead of the weird design of the real one.
Also it’s the future, so she gave him a jet pack. Also a shark fin. For “aerodynamics.”
I think I’m supposed to have a bigger problem with this than I do.
Spider-man 2099!

Very strange designer. He makes one tee design that’s a crisp, faithful rendition of the Spidey 2099 mask, but when it comes to the chest insignia he roughs it up like it was a black metal band logo. I don’t understand that logic. I would have taken a re-imagining like the one below over that.
Yeahhh, now THAT is the sort of Rick Leonardi/Mike Wieringo-style art that I like and that the character so richly deserves.
